Abstract:

Bursting safety discs made in the Polish RTD Institute provide an excellent protection against excessive pressure for all types of chemical apparatus, tanks or special equipment, and in some means of transport an additional protection to safety valves. All discs: diameters from 25 to 600 mm, are supplied with PTFE sheeting on one or both sides, ready for installation, officially accepted as a safety device. They are looking for industrial partners for manufacturing agreements.

Description:

Bursting safety discs have a simple monobloc shape and a rim that is sufficiently thick to prevent deformation of the membrane (patent R.P.98117). Carbo-graphite has a mechanical characteristic that allows it to be used at excess-pressures or under-pressure for long periods without effect on the ultimate strength. The safety discs developed by the Polish RTD Institute are especially useful for the majority of corrosive fluids, also for liquids with a great density or viscosity, and for fluids with inclination to polymerisation.
The CEBEA has studied various aspects of safety disc applications for many years. They have taken into account: material selection, geometrical factors, type of pressure seal etc. As a result they can guarantee a tolerance to effective bursting pressure within ¹ 10 % of the value specified for each disc.
Safety discs are used in the chemical and food industry as well as in cisterns for shipping, railway and road transport.

Innovative Aspects:
- Good resistance to the corrosive fluids because of the additional application of PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene)
- Standard diameters of safety discs up to 600 mm
- Total effective bursting pressure range from 0,08 to 40 bars

Main Advantages:
The application of the safety discs assures:
- Good precision of the effective bursting pressure tolerance within ¹ 10 %
- No ageing of the discs
- Operational reliability
- Easy adaptation for vacuum operation
- Extremely simple installation
