Abstract:

A Polish SME has developed the new radar acquisition and display system. The SC-PC/PCI card brings radar acquisition to a single slot PCI or ISA card. The SC-PC/PCI software is a professional-quality scan-converter for QNX/QRTP real-time operating system platform. This software uses the power of Pentium-class PC to implement very efficient transform incoming radar signal data on to the PC display. The company is looking for industrial partners interested in further development.

Description:

A Polish SME has developed a new radar acquisition and display system. The SC-PC/PCI (Personal Computer/ Peripheral Component Interconnect) Scan Converter card brings radar acquisition to a single slot PCI or ISA (Industry Standard Architecture) card. The Scan-converter SC-PC/PCI offers a highly cost -effective solution for the acquisition, distribution, scan-conversion and display of radar data for PC-based workstations. The SC-PC/PCI connects directly to the incoming radar stream, transferring the digitised data to the PCI bus. The SC-PC/PCI scan conversion algorithm accurately maps the incoming rho-theta radar data to the Cartesian co-ordinates of the display and ensures that there are no holes or spokes in the display image. The PC generates overlay and underlay graphics using a standard graphic card. The SC-PC/PCI software combines this graphic with the scan-converted radar data and outputs it to a CRT (Cathode Ray Tube) or to a flat-panel monitor. SC-PC/PCI also provides support for map and target drawing and makes it simple to the user to build his own application that zooms and re-scales radar video and graphics displays in an integrated manner. The interface includes user-friendly menu, driven facilities for setting up the radar, adjusting display parameters i.e. fade rates, modifying maps. The system can be configured to digitally record and replay radar data to and from the PC's hard disk. The company is looking for industrial partners interested in cooperation and further development and in research institutes and companies for testing of new applications.

Innovative Aspects:
SC-PC/PCI is a self-contained radar display card that accepts radar data. The state of art is that SC-PC/PCI connects directly to incoming radar steam transferring the digitised data to the standard PC graphic card via PCI or ISA bus, without any additional compression and decompression card thanks to a very efficient algorithm implemented directly in a microchip scan-converter card. Supports both analogue and digital flat panel display.

Main Advantages:
- Very fast data transformation
- Communication with graphic card via PC standard ISA
- PCI bus
- Independence from any hardware producer
- Low cost
