Abstract:

A Polish SME has developed a new idea in the lighting systems sector. The idea is called BAP, for Backlit Art Picture or Backlit Ad Picture. BAP is a new method of backlighting displays of translucent artworks & graphics. This innovation creates better visibility thus effectiveness of advertisements and in second market segment set new standards in interior decoration & lighting. Partners from the lighting system industry are being sought.

Description:

BAP- for Backlit Art/Ad Picture is a new method of back lighting displays of translucent artworks & graphics in form of stained glass panels, paintings and prints on glass, foil, silk, plastics, etc. It is significant in having tubular light sources placed at the sides and exterior of artwork' visible area, parallel to its edges and controlled separately manually or electronically for sets of programmable back light sequences. Backlit Art Picture contains pyramid-like or other shaped light reflecting surfaces for a more natural and a better control back light distribution. Backlit Art Picture is a self-contained, ready to use product. It frees translucent artworks from dependence on daylight or room light thus of previous necessity of being placed in windows, door or artificial wall-niches in interior decoration & lighting. Backlit Art/Ad Picture concept used for advertisement displays, due to natural directions of back light and its sequences controlling creates new visual effects for greater visibility thus effectiveness. Using sound module to control back light sequences enables simultaneous aural and visual co-ordinated presentations. Partners from the lighting system industry are being sought for collaboration and for the development of further applications and to exploit the existing know-how.

Innovative Aspects:
Novelty of BAP solution lies in placement of the back lighting light-sources inside the display-box parallel to its edges and at all or chosen its opposite sides, exterior to the visible area of artwork (ad graphic work). It shows artwork in a more sensitive and interesting way. It enables new, yet natural to human eye visual effects with option of enriching presentation by adding sound to co-ordinate with the back light. BAP can also contain a scent-dispensing module.

Main Advantages:
1. Energy and construction materials are saved in comparison to other solutions of similar operational features.
2. BAP products set new standards in interior décor & lighting as well as in back lit ad displays. This can create many new products for consumer markets. There are fifteen back light versions available to choose from. Opening sides of the display-box for light-rays will create light aura around it for more room lighting functions thus many cross-markets (décor & lighting) products can be created. Human presence close to the sensor can intensify backlight of the BA. Additionally in advertising displays: greater visibility and enhanced effectiveness is achieved by creating hundreds of directional back light sequences programmable into electronic light-controller accordingly to graphic layout and ad message. This light controller can be co-ordinated with sound playing module where music or slogan text will accent back light changes for simultaneous aural & visual communication that can be more linked to elements of whole promo campaign in other media.
Finally, the possibility of using this method in existing display solutions, based on the BAP general concept, several different novel kinds of ad displays can be developed among which the most promising are:
Multi-ad moving (scrolling) two-sided display,
Floor ad BAP,
Slim vertical or horizontal two-sided rack display that move or are permanent,
Ceiling-mounted triangle brand supermarket location markers.
