Abstract:
A Polish research institute has developed a set of vane sensors for measurement of air velocity and quantity of flow. The sensors are result of proprietary research and development. The set comprises both stationary and portable models. Some of them are already on the market. The institute is interested in co-operation in domains of application of vane anemometers in the metrology of flow velocity and volumetric intensity of flow and offers its own measurement technologies.

Description:
Vane Anemometric Sensors are applied in handheld meters and stationary devices for measurements of velocity of flow of air and other gases. A handheld anemometer of the ìAS type is equipped with two probes of external diameter 104 and 21 mm. The measuring range of the large probe is 0.2 to 20 m/s. The small probe has a range of 0.5 to 20 m/s. The range of the large sensor can be extended to 40 m/s. Both sensors are connected to the control unit with a cable, the length of which should not exceed 10 meters. The main unit is capable of instantaneous and averaged velocity measurements. The velocity is sampled with 1-second period. The averaging time can be set by the user and is limited to 7200 seconds. The samples of velocity may be stored in the device's memory and transmitted to an external computer. Additional functions of the meter are: calculation of volumetric flow (i.e. with continuous traversing of a specified cross section), over-range signal, display of a minimum and maximum of sampled values. Intrinsically safe versions of category Exia I/IIB T6 are also available. The device is equipped with a RS232 serial interface for transmission of data to an external computer. The meter may be equipped with a sensor capable of operation in hot gases of a temperature to 200 °C. The sensor has 21 mm diameter and is made of acid-resistant steel. A compact handheld anemometer ìAS3 has a 98-mm-diameter probe integrated with the main unit used as a handle. The measuring range is 0.2 to 20 m/s. The meter is capable of instantaneous and averaged measurements. The period of instantaneous measurements is 1 s. As in the previous model the user may select the time of averaging, limited to 3600 s. Optionally ìAS3 may be equipped with a RS232 serial interface for transmission of data to an external computer. The device is also manufactured in intrinsically safe versions of category Exia I/IIC T4. Each model can be equipped with extension rods of various lengths. Specialised software for transmission, analysis and visualisation of results has been developed at the institute. Production of a stationary model developed at the institute has been licensed to and external enterprise. Sensors are calibrated in a wind tunnel of the Institute's Flow Velocity Laboratory. The accuracy of the tunnel was assessed within the frame of the EUROMET Project no. 388 on Inter-comparison of Anemometers.
