Description:

A small Polish electrical power equipment factory, manufacturing safety equipment for servicing power network up to 400kV, developed a sound-optical voltage detector. A sound-optical voltage detector is designed for acoustic and optical signalling the presence of alternating voltage 50 Hz with rated voltage from 0.23 kV to 400 kV (in six ranges). The product meets the requirements of European standards and holds the necessary certificates. It works in conjunction with universal insulating pole (UDI) designed for appropriate rated voltage, preferably filled with isolation foam.

Voltage detector is equipped with cylindrical, bridge resistant housing made of black colour plastic. It is resistant to dropping down (according to the Polish Standard) and splashing.

One side of the detector is terminated with aluminium contact pin of L category (i.e. with no extension), of the length specified for the ranges according to the Polish Standard. The other side of the detector is terminated by the special holder for fastening in the quick clamping head of UDI universal insulating pole. The shape of the detector makes possible to introduce it together with the insulating pole into switchgear through appropriate measuring holes with no necessity serviceman to enter into switching station, if the switchgear has been equipped with such holes.

Voltage detector has two different signals: acoustic and visual, and additionally is equipped with self-test. It is destined for internal and external usage in the range of the temperatures from –25 °C up to +55 °C and relative humidity from 20 % up to 96 %.

The detector is powered with alkaline hermetic 9V battery of 6LR661 type. It is permissible to use, environmentally friendly, nickel-metallic-hydrogen 8.4 V 150 mAh battery of 6F22 NiMH type and suitable charger e.g. by GP Batteries. The battery can be replaced easily.

Voltage detector is equipped with microprocessor electronic system assuring high stability of adjusted signalling voltage (there is no possibility for the user to regulate the sensitivity of the detector) and high stolidity to the decrease of supply voltage. Occasional switching of the detector on will not cause the discharge of the battery because after 2 minutes the detector automatically will switch off.
During self-testing and during indicating the presence of the voltage, detector is emitting very well audible and visible acoustic and visual signals. The self-testing follows automatically just after switching on the detector.
Discharge of the battery is signalled with the separate signal code: 3 times acoustic and visual signal and after that switching off the detector take place.

Voltage detector operates within the following rated voltage ranges:

Range of rated voltages [kV] Gross weight [kg]
0.23 – 1 0.50
2 – 6 0.50
6 – 15 0.55
12 – 36 0.55
30 – 75 0.60
110 – 400 0.65

Innovative Aspects:
- microprocessor electronic system assuring high stability of adjusted signalling voltage and high stolidity to the decrease of supply voltage
- voltage detector has two different signals: acoustic and visual

Main Advantages:
- designed for internal and external usage in the range of the temperatures from –25 °C up to +55 °C and relative humidity from 20 % up to 96 %
- shape of the detector makes possible to introduce it together with the insulating pole into switchgear through appropriate measuring holes with no necessity serviceman to enter into switching station
